Whew, fall really flew by, didn’t it? With the arrival of cooler weather, our attention pivots toward the winter season, and many of you have already requested ideas for layered outfits.
I don’t think most of us need to rush out and buy an entirely new wardrobe. I’d encourage you to focus on creating outfits with pieces that can be re-purposed and worn multiple ways.
So I’ll be sharing some ideas for “chic, not fussy” winter looks.
1. Leather Jacket Over Argyle Vest and Collared White Shirt Ensemble + Dark-washed Denim Jeans
You can simply never go wrong with a leather jacket. This street-style look is such a gem.
The argyle vest layered over a classic white collared shirt gives the whole outfit so much more life.
I’ve been seeing hobo bags, or dumpling bags, everywhere lately, and they’re not just incredibly trendy, but they’re functional too. What’s not to love?!
2. Chunky Knit Sweater Layered Over Matching Plaid Top and Skirt
It’s time to pull your pullover sweaters out of the closet! I’m obsessed with how Lara styled this one. I mean, plain colors and plaid prints are just a match made in heaven.
I also adore how she added some maroon stockings and a matching bag to break up the color palette. It’s such a smart touch.
3. Rose Pink Long Coat Over Black High-neck Top and Wide-Leg Denim Jeans
Okay, let’s take a little break from all the neutrals and bring in some color.
This coat has the perfect shade of pink that gives the casual black top and light-washed denim a girly feel without being too bright. It’s a subtle and chic way to add a little something special to a winter outfit.
4. Street-style Coral Red Puffer Jacket with Jogger Pants and Crossbody Hobo Bag
If you’re on the hunt for a more laid-back, boyish vibe, this is the one for you. That vibrant puffer jacket is the main event of this look, and it creates a chic focal point.
It balances out the brown tones of the pants, shoes, and bag in such a cool way.
5. Matching White Chunky Knit Beanie, Puffer Jacket, Mini Cargo Skirt and Leg Warmers
Don’t be intimidated by an all-white outfit! The secret is to use deeper shades like ivory or off-white to give the look more dimension.
You can see here how the different textures of the beanie, jacket, and leg warmers keep the single color from feeling flat. It really proves that playing with texture can totally amp up your style.
6. All-Black Puffer Jacket and Leggings Outfit with Combat Boots
I know one of the biggest struggles with winter layers is that they can hide your figure. But this look is the perfect example of how you can show off your curves and stay warm.
The volume of the puffer jacket perfectly balances the tight leggings, creating a really shapely silhouette. And can we talk about how cute those ear muffs are?
7. Bright Yellow Beanie Paired with Green Long Coat and Striped Pants
Neutrals are great, there’s no doubt about it! But that doesn’t mean your winter wardrobe has to be limited to just those colors.
Playing with bright colors can sometimes feel tricky, but Dahana’s yellow and green pairing is a bold statement that proves experimenting is totally worth it!
8. Padded Taupe Coat with Knitted Balaclava and Chunky Shoes
For days when you want to be completely covered up without giving up on style, this taupe look from the YT twins is a fantastic choice.
And if you ever thought Balaclavas couldn’t be chic, this outfit is here to prove you wrong!
9. Fuzzy Bucket Hat Paired with Neutral Layers of Drapey Coat, Cashmere Scarf, and Flowy Pants
I know, this might look a little like another outfit, but don’t you just adore the softer flow of the fabrics here?
While one look is more structured, this one is all about being flowy and drapey. The checkered bucket hat adds so much depth, and I’m already wondering where I can find one for myself.
10. Mid-Length Coat Paired with Light-washed Mini Skirt and Knee-High Boots
A mini skirt in winter? I say, why not! With this sexy outfit combination, you can see how the coat and knee-high boots do all the work to make the skirt totally weather-appropriate.
Pro tip: if you want to wear a mini skirt when it’s cold, pick one in a thick, structured fabric like denim.
11. Belted Tailored Blazer with an All-Red Inner Ensemble
This blazing red outfit is definitely setting winter on fire! Red is such an edgy color and can sometimes overpower a look.
Here, the bright red top, stockings, and shoes are made more wearable by pairing them with a black tailored blazer. The belt is the perfect finishing touch, cinching the waist to create a streamlined look.
12. Shearling Coat Over a Pastel Blue Turtleneck and Linen White Pants Ensemble
The soft pastel shades in this outfit are just a superb way to add some color to the season without going over the top.
What makes this simple look even more eye-catching is the burgundy baseball cap that matches the shoes perfectly. It’s such a fun detail!
13. Oversized Gray Trench Coat and Black Combat Boots
This look really speaks for itself. I mean, a trench coat is always going to be an edgy fashion statement!
I love that she added hand warmers and gave the coat’s sophisticated vibe a more casual feel by pairing it with combat boots.
14. Monochromatic Oversized Suit Coordinate with Sweater Tied Over Shoulders
Oversized coordinates are a major staple, and they give you so many great possibilities for layering.
In this look, the structured, business-y feel of the suit is softened by the sweater tied casually over the shoulders. It’s such a chic way to play with proportions.
15. Leather Cape Jacket with Skinny Jeans and Knee-high Black Boots
That leather cape jacket was love at first sight! The structure and volume Emmanuelle is rocking on her upper body is so beautifully balanced by the body-hugging skinny jeans and boots.
And I have to mention that tiny brown bag—it’s just so cute!
16. Forest Green Jacket and Pants Coordinate with Brown Platform Shoes
Matching pieces from a neutral palette is always a safe bet. But if you’re ready to step out of your comfort zone, don’t be afraid of color!
In this outfit, the matching green jacket and pants blend flawlessly with the white turtleneck. And those super cozy platform shoes add so much warmth to the whole look.
17. Soft Beige Shearling Jacket Paired with Cable Knit Top and Ivory Pants
Don’t you just love the balance of textures in this outfit?
Shearling jackets can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming because they’re so bulky, but you can see how the heavy texture is neutralized by the top, pants, and shoes in matching shades of white. It’s so well done.
18. Long Gray Cardigan Layered Over an Eyelet Collar Blouse and Soft-Printed Pants
I bet we all noticed the same thing right away. Just look at that amazing eyelet collar that screams vintage glory!
Its beauty is really put in the spotlight thanks to the simple gray cardigan and straight-leg pants.
19. Dark Brown Padded Jacket with Oversized Tassel Scarf and Baggy Pants
Here is a winter look that is guaranteed to keep you warm from head to toe. There’s no question it’s a well-coordinated outfit, but the piece that really stood out to me was the chunky tassel scarf.
It doesn’t just look super cozy, it also feels very luxurious. It adds so much dimension to her monochromatic look!
20. Long Coat with Wide Lapel Over Knitted Vest Layers and Statement Designer Bag
Long coats with wide lapels bring instant elegance to pretty much any outfit, even if you’re just pairing it with a basic shirt and jeans.
I love the minimalist vibe of this look, which makes that red Fendi bag stand out even more!
