10 Easy Halloween Costume Ideas for Couples

Creative couples Halloween costumes featuring zombie makeup and 1920s flapper with newsboy outfit.

While there’s no shortage of elaborate costumes available now, they’re often accompanied by an overabundance of planning and expense.

It’s still Instagram’s world; we just live in it. If that’s your style, enjoy! But I’ve been on the lookout for some options for the rest of us ; here are a few I’ve turned up recently.

1. Bob Ross Painting his Happy Tree

Did anyone love art as much as Bob Ross did? I don’t think so either, which is why I think this amazing couple’s Halloween costume is such a perfect tribute to the painter, instructor, and TV host most famously known for The Joy of Painting.

Recreating the costume itself is surprisingly simple. You just need a few things like a brown top and trousers for her, with jeans and a blue shirt for him.

Of course, you can’t forget that big afro wig if you weren’t blessed with his awesome curly hair! Then all you have to do is get artsy with plenty of leaves. Maybe even let the kids join in to keep them busy for a couple of hours!

2. Chuck Noland (Tom Hanks) + Wilson

For this Tom Hanks as Chuck Noland and Wilson combination, what do you need? It’s all about cargo shorts and a red tea-towel wrapped around his head.

For her look, grab a white t-shirt, some jeans or joggers from your closet, and a white headband. The final touch is a white piece of cardboard painted to look just like Wilson. It’s so simple and honestly, pretty hilarious too!

3. Old Couple

The absolute best thing about this old couple Halloween costume is that you can pull it off just by raiding your grandparents’ or parents’ closets! Not that I’m saying being old is spooky or anything. Okay, I’ll admit it… I’m a little scared of getting old. There, I said it.

Fun fact: the world’s largest Halloween parade is actually in America! If you ever go to New York City for All Hallow’s Eve, you’ll join over two million other spectators. And that doesn’t even count the fifty thousand or so people who are actually in the parade.

You’ll definitely want a costume that stands out in that crowd. Do you think this Granny & Grandpa look will do it?

4. Mime Couple

Wouldn’t it be so awesome if Halloween had a full moon this year? Sadly, even though you see it in all the spooky movies, a full moon on Halloween is super rare.

The last time we saw one on All Hallow’s Eve was back in 2001, and the one before that was in 1955. The next one isn’t even expected until 2020. Are you planning to save your best costume for then?

Yeah, I didn’t think so. And with a costume this good, why would you even want to wait? The basic pieces are so simple.

You’ll need black trousers and shorts, maybe some stockings for the lady, a couple of striped shirts, and a lot of white makeup. It really couldn’t be easier than that.

5. The Fifth Element

Here’s a fun little Halloween fact for you. The most Jack O’Lanterns ever lit at one time was 30,128, a world record held by Boston, Massachusetts.

It’s funny because Massachusetts also claims to be the world’s Halloween capital, but they have some serious competition from places like Anoka, Minnesota, and Salem.

Speaking of all things orange, you can fight off all the costume competition with this little gem. It’s simple to recreate, fun to look at, and is definitely one that will get everyone talking for all the right reasons!

6. Bees + Beekeeper

There is actually a name for the fear of bees, and it’s called ‘melissophobia’. I knew it was a real thing! I also definitely have it!

Why not freak everyone out at the party by going as something that is guaranteed to put the fear of God in most people all summer long?

The bee and beekeeper costume is one of my personal favorites, and we all know someone who has this cute bee outfit tucked away in their dress-up box. The dog is also such an excellent touch.

I’m a firm believer that every costume is even better with a dog in fancy dress!

7. Terrance and Katie (South Park)

If you ever want to throw a Halloween party with a seriously spooky vibe, you need to go to Lewisburg, Ohio. There’s an abandoned mine cave about eighty feet underground there, and it’s supposedly haunted.

It’s so haunted, in fact, that it holds the Guinness World Record for the world’s longest haunted house.

But back to right here, right now, what do you think of this South Park themed costume? You could totally make those faces from pieces of cardboard, and they are so simple.

You could even get your kids involved to help you out for a fun weekend activity.

8. 1920s Couple

This 1920s couple is such a classic look, and since 20s style has been making a comeback lately, finding clothes like this for him and her is actually going to be easier than you might think. There’s no need to run to the fancy dress shop for this one.

The 1920s were a pretty amazing decade, with more people moving to towns and cities instead of living on farms. The economic growth in the USA even doubled during this time. It was definitely a time of luxury, that’s for sure.

9. Pop Art Zombie Couple

Here’s a little Halloween history for you. The holiday is actually a Wiccan tradition that started somewhere pretty surprising. A lot of people think All Hallow’s Eve is an American thing, but it really began in Scotland, Ireland, and the Isle of Man.

When you’re putting on your fabulous couples’ costume, you should probably know the celebrations came from an old Celtic tradition called ‘Samhaim.’

It marked the end of their year, and they believed it was the one day that fairies and other spirits could cross over into our world.

10. Tooth Fairy + Dentist

Source: @mymommastyle

What’s scarier than the dentist? I HATE the dentist, and so does most of the world’s population. There are tons of different names for the phobia, like dental anxiety, odontophobia, or dentophobia.

Whatever you call it, every single trip is NOT fun.

This is another one of those super simple and easy Halloween costumes for couples, and you could get really creative with it. I can’t wait to see what you all come up with!
